URiM Faculty
There have been several efforts to support and advance the careers of URiM faculty. Dr. Stone has worked with division chiefs on several recruitment and search committees. She has offered career advising and mentorship about academic promotion, research funding, leadership opportunities, and funding to assist with retention packages. As a member of the DOM Promotions Committee, Dr. Stone is an advocate for advancing the careers of URiM faculty who are being considered for promotion. As a senior faculty member with a national network, she is apprised of many opportunities that could potentially benefit URiM faculty, such as grants and career development awards, special conferences, and other events of interest, and distributes these to the DOM’s URiM faculty on a regular basis.
URiM Faculty Advancement
The Minority Faculty Development series serves as a monthly program led by Dr. Stone with content developed based on responses to the URiM faculty needs assessment. In addition, faculty career development efforts have focused on academic promotion, career enhancing strategies, and national opportunities.
NEW AND EARLY CAREER URIM FACULTY
We held our inaugural reception for new and early URiM faculty in 2022. This reception is a wonderful kick-off to a series of events that cater to enhancing the experience of our new early career URiM faculty within our community. The primary goals for future events are focused on creating a sense of belonging at BWH and increasing institutional knowledge. We anticipate workshops on academic promotion pathways, employing social media as a career enhancement tool, and social events such as forest bathing – a practice of being present and doing so in nature.
We convene approximately every 1–2 months with this group of faculty.
